Out of all the product updates announced at Apple’s Fall Event none got my attention more than the 4th Generation iPod Touch. As expected the upgrades on the 4th Generation iPod Touch did not disappoint in any way. Everything we expected and wished wanted is all there except for the lasers I always wanted.

So as expected the iPod Touch will be getting the Retina Display which ups the pixels to about 4x more than older iPod Touch models. Apple’s A4 Chip is also powering the show along with a front and back camera capable of HD video recording. I’m guessing the iPod Touch would hurt sales figures of point and shoot cameras because of the other features users get not to mention all the apps and cool stuff you can do with it. Facetime would probably see a big surge when the iPod Touch comes out next week specially when the whole world gets it’s hands on one of these. All in all the 4th generation iPod Touch is essentially an iPhone without the phone, so in my opinion it would be the killer gadget for anyone not willing to do away with keypads but would want to enjoy Apple’s iOS.

Apple’s iPod Nano probably got the most updates out of all the iPods announced in Apple’s Fall Event. Or should I say it’s a whole new product? I mean with the upgrades it got it really doesn’t look anything like the old iPod Nanos. As you can see it lost all the buttons in exchange for a small touchscreen which by the way is multi-touch. So in essence it’s more like a very small iPod Touch. It’s also got voice over like the iPod Shuffle and an FM tuner but we lose the small video camera which I doubt we’d miss with that screen size. The 24 hour battery life would probably get all those beats running all night long specially without the camera to slurp it down. The 8GB model would be around USD 150 and like the Shuffle expect 6 colors to choose from.

Well the cat’s out of the bag and as expected we have a host of new Apple products to grab in the coming weeks. Apple’s Fall Event didn’t disappoint us in any way, from the iPod Shuffle down to the iPod Touch. We have a lot of product updates to cover so I’m thinking we should introduce each one with a post of it’s own. So first up we have the brand spanking new 4th Generation iPod Shuffle.

As you can see on the image above the iPod Shuffle got it’s buttons and clip back and is only slightly wider than the 3rd Gen Shuffle. As this doesn’t have a screen or any other feature than awesome portability there really isn’t much Steve and Company could’ve done to make it any better. Bringing back the buttons and still maintaining the voice over is a clear indication that Apple really adjusts there products based on consumer input. Upgrades also include a 15 hour battery life and a price tag of just a hair below USD 50, and you get to go for any of the 6 colors.

As of this writing, the gray market prices for Software Unlocked iPhone 4‘s are P53,000 for 16GB and P57,000 for 32GB. Software Unlocked models can’t be upgraded with firmware. For the Factory Unlocked iPhone 4′s, the 16GB goes for P64,000 and the 32GB will set you back P70,000. This is a huge jump from the current official Singapore prices. The official Singapore price for the 16GB iPhone 4 model is just P29,638 while the 32GB model costs P34,979. My advice to everyone here in the Philippines is to just be patient. Paying almost double the cost for this through the gray market just isn’t worth it.

The official prices are actually very affordable and reasonable compared to the gray market prices here in the Philippines. I also heard that you can actually get a 7% rebate if you’re a foreigner buying there. I have a feeling that iPad prices here in the Philippines will go down drastically. To those who are planning on buying, try to hold on for a couple of weeks. You’ll definitely save some cash if you do so. Price list after the break.

iPad WIFI (only) 16GB – $728.00 (P24,663)
iPad WIFI+3G 64GB – $1,228.00 (P41,601)

Just so you guys have a point of comparison the Apple iPad 64GB WIFI+3G is being sold for P52,000+ in the gray market locally. That’s more than P10,000 in savings. The basic iPad 16GB WIFI only is usually priced at P31,000. That’s P6,000+ in savings. It’s very light, mobile, and powerful for it’s size. I can even play some games on it like Red Alert (lol). My only wish really is for Apple to come up with another MBA with even higher specs so that it can do more media editing and gaming applications. However, it looks like they’re going to focus more on making it even smaller. There are rumors circulating that Apple will be releasing a new MBA with an 11.6 inch display. It’s going to be powered by an Intel Core i-series ultra-low voltage processor as well. Read the source article after the break.

Apple is ready to launch a new generation MacBook Air featuring an 11.6-inch display and Intel Core i-series ultra-low voltage processor in the second half of 2010, as well as a new iPod touch in August or September. Both devices will be manufactured by Quanta Computer, according to Mingchi Kuo, senior analyst at Digitimes Research.

Kuo, citing discussions with upstream component makers, noted that the 11.6-inch MacBook Air will feature an even slimmer and lighter design than the previous-generation models and the technologies used for the design and concept are expected to be broadly used in the company’s other product lines to boost their competitiveness.

However, shipment volumes of the new 11.6-inch MacBook are expected to reach only 400,000 units in 2010, Kuo pointed out.

The new iPod touch will feature a 3-megapixel camera, capable of both photo and video recording, and will adopt Apple’s latest A4 processor, which is also used in the iPhone 4.

Kuo noted that new iPod touch shipments are expected to reach 17-18 million units in 2010.

Source

Not to keen on getting this one. I already have an iPad. Hopefully Apple comes up with the same 13 inch display MBA with better specs or else I might just go for a MBP when I upgrade later this year.

With all the commotion with the iPhone 4′s antenna problems some people hardly noticed the iPad’s new firmware update. But since we currently have more iPads here in the Philippines than the brand spanking new iPhone 4 I just wanted to share what new fixes we can expect in the new 3.2.1 firmware for the iPad. The 3.2.1 update for the iPad doesn’t really bring any new features to the tablet we all love and it’s actually an obvious sign that iOS 4 for the iPad may still be a couple of months away. So for now just head on to the break to see what improvements we got.

Improved Wi-Fi connectivity

Fixed an issue that stops the copy/paste of single-page PDFs in Mail

Addressed issues that causes video playback to freeze

Improved reliability involving the video-out using the iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter

Added Bing to Safari’s search options

If you want to update your iPad all you have to do is connect it to your PC or laptop and then click on update in iTunes, but I’m sure most of you already know that.
